Vietcombank participates in workshop on 'Hanoi: Smart City and Open Banking Ecosystem

On the morning of October 2, 2024, Tien Phong (Vanguard) Newspaper, in collaboration with the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS), hosted the workshop titled "Hanoi: Smart City and Open Banking Ecosystem." This event is a significant highlight in the series of activities planned for Vietnam Card Day 2024.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Pham Tien Dung, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, emphasized: "This workshop will illustrate a new vision for Hanoi, one that is developing and modernizing in alignment with our goal of becoming a smart city. Additionally, it will present a distinct perspective on the banking industry, highlighting the open banking ecosystem."

In Session 1, titled "Hanoi: Smart City Promoting the Digital Economy," Mr. Tran Van Thanh, Deputy Head of the Digital Channel Development and Partnership Department at Vietcombank, shared insights into the bank's digital transformation initiatives.

As of July 2024, Vietcombank boasts over 26 million individual customers, with more than 50% actively using e-banking applications. The transaction rate on digital channels exceeds 97%, making Vietcombank the leading bank with 18 million domestic and international cards and over 130,000 payment acceptance units across various sectors. The bank offers a diverse range of payment products and services, incorporating advanced global technologies that adhere to international security standards.

In Session 2, titled "Open Banking Ecosystem: The Future of the Banking Industry," Ms. Doan Hong Nhung, Director of Vietcombank's Retail Division, addressed the question, "Which project will support Hanoi in building a smart city?" She highlighted that Vietcombank has been delivering a variety of modern payment solutions across sectors such as public services, utilities (electricity, water, telecommunications), tuition fees, hospital charges, shopping, and tourism etc. For Hanoi, Vietcombank proposed collaborating on touch payment systems and facial recognition payment (facepay) options for public transport, as well as seamless payment solutions for parking services integrated with VneID. "These innovations will establish the 2S standard - Clean and Digital - for Hanoi. That is our aspiration," Ms. Doan Hong Nhung shared.
