From July 1, 2024, Vietcombank has implemented biometric authentication for certain types of online transactions. However, during the initial stages of implementation, there have been instances where SCAMMERS HAVE IMPERSONATED BANKING EMPLOYEES. These scammers contact customers and falsely claim to provide "support" in biometric installation, with the intention of stealing customers' assets and personal information.
Here are some common methods employed by these fraudsters:
- Make phone calls, send text messages, and establish connections through social networking platforms such as Zalo, Facebook, etc to guide customers in collecting their biometric information.
- Create deceptive usernames like "Bank Staff," "Customer Support," etc and engage with customers by commenting on posts on the bank's official social networking sites. They then request customers to contact them privately via direct messages (inbox).
- Ask customers to provide personal information, bank account details, images of their citizen identification, and even facial images under the guise of providing support. In some cases, they may even request a video call to capture additional voice and gestures.
- Recommend customers to access unfamiliar links to download and install applications that claim to support biometric data collection.
Once they obtain customers' information, the perpetrators will proceed to misappropriate funds from the customers' bank accounts.
Vietcombank urges customers to exercise caution and follow these preventive measures to protect themselves:
- Vietcombank strictly emphasizes that customers are NOT required to provide personal information through channels such as phone calls, SMS, email, or chat platforms (such as Zalo, Viber, Facebook Messenger). As a result, customers must refrain from clicking on any links or divulging any information related to account security, digital banking services (login credentials, passwords, OTP codes), card services (card numbers, OTP codes), account details, or any other banking service security information or personal information.
- Customers should NOT share personal information, banking service details, transaction information, or any sensitive data on social networks.
In the event of any difficulties encountered while updating biometric information or undergoing biometric authentication in accordance with regulations, customers can take the following actions:
