A Dialogue Between Music and Cinema
Following the success of the 2023 event, which celebrated the fusion of visual arts and music, this year’s Masterpiece of Time left a lasting impression with its unique synergy between music and cinema. Timeless soundtracks from iconic Vietnamese and global films were brought to life under the visionary direction of Đặng Xuân Trường and music director Hồng Kiên, featuring outstanding performances by Mỹ Linh, Mỹ Tâm, Lân Nhã, Hà An Huy, dancers, and the In the Spotlight orchestra.
From internationally renowned films like The Godfather, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Cinema Paradiso to celebrated Vietnamese classics like Cánh đồng hoang, Chung một dòng sông, and Bao giờ cho đến tháng Mười, the familiar melodies were creatively reimagined to blend contemporary flair with the essence of their original masterpieces.
The concert opened by guiding the audience through a nostalgic journey with iconic cinematic soundtracks.
“When a work transcends time, it becomes a masterpiece. It’s fascinating to see creations of the past come alive through the voices of today, proving their enduring vitality in the present,” remarked one of the performers. Through the heartfelt voices of Mỹ Linh, Lân Nhã, and Hà An Huy, the audience was transported across a timeline of cinematic memories, from Love Story and Casablanca to cherished Vietnamese films that have become national treasures.
Highlights included the duet by Lân Nhã and Hà An Huy of Mãi mãi, the theme song from the film Ước mơ vươn tới một ngôi sao, which resonated with sweetness and emotional depth.
Mỹ Linh captivated listeners with Vietnamese cinematic songs from the 1990s and early 2000s
In the latter half of the event, the atmosphere grew vibrant with the appearance of singer Mỹ Tâm, who delivered iconic songs closely tied to her name, such as The Light (from the film The Timekeeper) and Life is a Dream (from the film My Assistant), both of which she directed and starred in.
The meticulously staged performances, highlighted by the brilliance of singer Mỹ Tâm, brought the program to a close amidst thunderous applause.
The concert also featured the soulful violin melodies of People's Artist Bùi Công Duy, who performed Tình yêu của biển by composer Phú Quang, and insightful anecdotes from composer Đức Trí about the art of film scoring. The event was further enriched by the engaging hosting of MCs Mỹ Lan, Phí Linh, and storyteller Kim Nguyên Bảo. These elements came together seamlessly, creating a flowing narrative of music and cinema that enthralled the audience with its distinct and memorable storytelling.
A Nostalgic Space for Timeless Memories
