Urgent warning: Fraudsters impersonating Vietcombank staff to promote credit card openings

Vietcombank strongly warns customers about a recent wave of scams where fraudsters impersonate Vietcombank employees or call center representatives to deceive individuals into applying for credit cards.

FRAUDULENT CALLING SCHEME
  • Scammers pose as Vietcombank staff and contact customers via phone calls, SMS, Zalo, Messenger, and other platforms, urging them to apply for a virtual debit card or a credit card.

Some reported fraudulent phone numbers include: 02366888766, 02488860469, 02888865154, and more.

  • In some cases, customers receive an automated call with a fake message stating:

Congratulations! You are eligible for a credit card from Vietcombank. Press 1 to proceed or 0 to speak with an agent."

If the customer presses a key, the scammer disconnects the call and later calls back, pretending to be a bank employee. They then attempt to steal personal and banking security information.

DEMANDING SENSITIVE INFORMATION
  • Fraudsters often request customers to provide sensitive card details, claiming it is necessary to link their cards to an e-wallet, which ultimately allows them to steal funds  from the account.

    • Card details: Card images, printed card number, name on the card, screenshots from VCB Digibank displaying full card numbers.
    • OTP (One-Time Password) sent to the customer’s registered phone number.
  • Bank account details , personal information (Citizen ID, biometric images), and confidential banking credentials (passwords, OTPs).
  • Payment of fraudulent fees such as application fees, issuance fees, etc.
